Tiffany Lamps – Timeless Classics
Even though the Tiffany lamp is very popular with home owners, the inventor of this lamp Louis Comfort Tiffany was never pleased with this invention. The savvy businessman was more focused in areas like interior design, stained glass, ceramic and painting departments. These were all exclusive pieces, the Tiffany lamp was mass-produced. Over time however, the Tiffany lamps transcended generation after generation of inventions and become the symbol of the timeless creativity and futuristic vision of Tiffany.
This new process actually changed the way lampshades were made and they were different style which ranged over 300 in the year 1906. The most distinct pieces produced by Tiffany were the Wisteria and Hanging head Dragonfly Lamp which are utilized and purchased by collectors even today. The majority of the population that enjoyed using Tiffany lamps was basically enchanted with their ability to give soft versions of incandescent lighting. This meant that the glaring light of the bulbs was softened dramatically.
Not only were they functional but also worked as a piece of art in any room. They were truly artistic representations which were transferred into a common item available in every house. However, as trends in interior decoration shifted the popularity of the Tiffany lamp went down from the early 20th century. Even though the studio continued to make unique leaded lamps all the way up to the early 1930s the sales plummeted because of the mass production and clichéd use of this item by everyone. This led to the eventual bankruptcy in 1932.
Revival of the Tiffany Lamp
By 1933 Louis Comfort Tiffany had died and missed out on the regenerated interest in the Tiffany lamp. While we did not like this creation of his, it went on to signify his existence throughout history. Now once again his lamps became popular and an interest was revived due to the quality, variety and rarity of the pieces.
